OUR HEALTHY ANIMALS ARE A BARGAIN
Prior to adoption, all Kalamazoo Animal Rescue cats & kittens are:
- spayed or neutered
- feline leukemia tested and adults are FIV tested
- given at least one distemper vaccination
- given medication to rid them of roundworms
- checked and treated for fleas & ear mites
- provided with other vet care depending on the particular animal's needs.
If you get a "free" kitten from an ad in the newspaper and take the kitten to a local vet for an examination, neuter/spay, feline Leukemia/FIV test, one vaccine and one wormer, it would cost you an average of:
- Minimum for a male cat: $136
- Minimum for a female cat: $167
For the series of three distemper vaccines and two wormers:
- Male: $198 or more
- Female: $229 or more
And that doesn't even count ear mites, fleas and maybe upper respiratory infections. All the medical care we've provided could cost you up to $300 for a male cat and $325 for a female cat.

- heartworm tested and placed on preventative
- given at least one distemper vaccination
- given medication to rid them of roundworms
- checked and treated for fleas & ear mites
- 4 months and older are brought current on rabies vaccine
- provided with other vet care depending on the particular animal's needs.
Depending on their weight, vet care including neuter/spay, examination, vaccines, wormer, heartworm test and preventative treatment for a dog or puppy would cost you:
- Females: $217 to $310
- Males: $182 to $222
