Apply For Prince

Meet Prince...again. This boy has been in the Rescue for almost a year. He came to us with an injured leg which he received corrective surgery on. Following surgery, he was placed up for adoption and we quickly learned that Prince needs a very selective home (more about that in a minute). After several failed meets and greets, Prince went to doggy bootcamp at Last Journey K9. Prince spent six weeks of intense, in home training this fall and passed with flying colors. We have learned so much about him and he has learned so much about being a better dog. We are confident, just need to find the right home for him and that one, lucky home that gets him will have the best dog.

Onto the "positives". Prince is highly intelligent, even for a dog. Further, he is a people pleaser and once he knows what is expected from his pack leader, he will comply (with the occasional and timely reminder from his pack leader). Prince has a heart of gold and is all bark, no bite. He doesn't have a mean bone in his body. Finally, Prince is a people person and does not need another dog to be happy.

And now the thought provoking information. Prince ultimately needs a strong pack leader that will have the patience to encourage Prince to be a part of the pack but will not allow Prince to think he is alpha. Prince is definitely that dog that will take a mile when given an inch. Prince will need at least two to three weeks of adjustment period before you can expect to see the true Prince. He does become anxious with change and reverts to old behaviors but given time, patience and guidance, he will adjust and you will have a best friend for life. Prince will be happiest with a single man or woman or with a family with or without older children. Prince will not do good in a home with other pets or young kids. The one exception is if the other dog(s) in the home are "bomb-proof"and are able to handle Prince's antics (he lacks proper doggy manners). So if you have young kids or other pets in the home, please understand, Prince is likely not for you.

This bio is not like normal bios. We want to make sure any potential adopter gets an idea of the level of commitment we need from them while also showcasing Prince's good points and not so good points. Prince is an absolutely amazing dog and I promise he is well worth all that we have gone through to get to this point. If you meet our general criteria (single or family with older kids and no other pets (unless bomb-proof dog) and are interested to learn more about this amazing dog, please fill out an application. Thank you for taking the time to read this.

KateF is his foster parent. The adoption fee for Prince is $225, please complete our online application formspeak to a volunteer if you are interested in adopting Prince. A volunteer will contact you.

All Kalamazoo Animal Rescue dogs & puppies are spayed or neutered prior to adoption. Dogs have been heartworm tested and if appropriate (age and time of year) all dogs and puppies are given heartworm preventative. All are given medication to rid them of roundworms and checked and treated for fleas & ear mites, if needed. Dogs and puppies are given distemper vaccines and depending on how long the pet has been in foster care, additional distemper vaccine(s) may be necessary and the expense will be incurred by the adopter. Any canine over 4 months of age is brought current on the Rabies vaccine. Additional vet care may have been provided depending on the particular animal's needs. Dogs are individually priced as above.

It is in the best interest of pooch and owner to enroll in an obedience class soon after adoption. After all, you have a lot to learn about your new friend. Both PetSmart and the Kalamazoo Dog Training Club offer a discount to owners with newly adopted dogs. Enroll before any behavior problems start - you won't regret it!
