Apply For Freya

Freya is a sweet and cuddly wild child who is looking for her perfect forever home!

She had a rough start to life, spending most of it in a crate (eating, peeing, pooping) and being treated as more of a nuisance than the sweet puppy that she is. Because she spent so much of her prime socialization time in a crate, Freya is now having to play catch-up. Freya is potty trained and knows basic commands - "sit" and "down." She has shown signs of resource guarding of toys, food, and her crate with other dogs while in the house (not out in the yard). Because she is a resource guarder inside the home, we are looking for a home with no other dogs at this time. She currently lives with two dogs and wears her basket muzzle when in the house with them. She is comfortable with wearing it while she and the other dogs are out and about together.

While Freya does not have much of a prey drive, she does chase cats thinking it is one big game. If they swat at her, she thinks that's even more fun! Because of this, a home without cats is best. A cat-friendly dog that doesn't run away from or react to cats MIGHT be okay as she ages out of puppyhood!

Freya is smart and ready to learn. On walks, she constantly looks back at her foster mom checking in if she's doing it right. This shows us that she is eager to please, a great attribute for a dog willing to learn for her people!

Freya LOVES to cuddle and be right on top of her foster mom and dad. She also enjoys playing outside and chasing tennis balls - though she isn't the best at returning them to the thrower yet!

Freya's perfect home is one that wants to attend basic training classes, be active (she would love to be a hiking buddy), and has no small kids as she's got some happy energy! She has escaped her crate once and didn't chew anything up all day, so that's a great sign for some future house freedom, but for now, she will continue working on crate training.

Does Freya sound like your perfect match? Apply to meet her today!

Hailey K is her foster parent. The adoption fee for Freya is $325, please complete our online application formspeak to a volunteer if you are interested in adopting Freya. A volunteer will contact you.

All Kalamazoo Animal Rescue dogs & puppies are spayed or neutered prior to adoption. Dogs have been heartworm tested and if appropriate (age and time of year) all dogs and puppies are given heartworm preventative. All are given medication to rid them of roundworms and checked and treated for fleas & ear mites, if needed. Dogs and puppies are given distemper vaccines and depending on how long the pet has been in foster care, additional distemper vaccine(s) may be necessary and the expense will be incurred by the adopter. Any canine over 4 months of age is brought current on the Rabies vaccine. Additional vet care may have been provided depending on the particular animal's needs. Dogs are individually priced as above.

It is in the best interest of pooch and owner to enroll in an obedience class soon after adoption. After all, you have a lot to learn about your new friend. Both PetSmart and the Kalamazoo Dog Training Club offer a discount to owners with newly adopted dogs. Enroll before any behavior problems start - you won't regret it!
