Senior Cat Companions

Experience the joy of having a cat in your life!

Senior Cat Companions (SCC) is a unique adoption program established by Kalamazoo Animal Rescue in 2007 to place mature cats with qualified senior citizens 60 years and older.

Mature cats make great pets

The personality of a mature cat is fully developed and apparent, making good matches between cat and owner possible. Because they have their rambunctious kitten years behind them, adult cats make ideal companions in less active homes. Mature cats have many years of love and affection to share. Life expectancy for an indoor cat is 15 years or more.

Have you thought about adopting a cat for yourself or a senior you know, but are concerned about potential obstacles?

Lady with Cat The Senior Cat Companions program is designed to assist people in overcoming obstacles that prevent them from bringing a pet into their lives. Such obstacles might include:

Concern about the expense of a pet
Donations allow us to reduce the adoption fee for cats in this program. Each cat is examined by a veterinarian, neutered, vaccinated, treated for fleas/parasites and litter box trained. Start-up supplies can be included as part of the adoption.

Transportation issues
If you are a good candidate for one of our cats but don't drive, a volunteer can come to your home with information on available cats and a cat can be delivered to you.

Cats can help seniors

Cats can help senior citizens in numerous ways. They provide companionship, affection, entertainment and can add purpose to a senior's day.

Seniors can help cats

Cat overpopulation continues to be a serious problem. Thousands of healthy, friendly, adoptable cats are euthanized every year in shelters because no one steps forward to adopt them.
